The Volkswagen T-Roc mixes cards between compact SUVs

Not only attentive car enthusiasts could have noticed over the past few months that Volkswagen has begun to focus on SUV/ crossover vehicles in the big one. Proof of this was a few well-behaved concepts, but now we are witnesses of the first fruits. Wolfsburg’s new, completely new SUV is not yet in the portfolio of the German brand. The speech is a model with a really unusual name – T-Roc. It combines the established, SUV markings starting with T (Tiguan, Touareg, Teramont) and the addition of Roc, derived from the English word “rock”, which has a new crossover to portray the sovereignty of the SUV combined with agility of the compact class hatchback. The spectacular revelation of the new additions to the Volkswagen ranks occurred near the ItalianMilan, or even more, we have attended the opening ceremony personally, so we give you our first impressions in the very near future. It is worthwhile to note, as it should be said at the beginning that Volkswagen is a breakthrough, which is to begin a new era of more emotional models, and at the same time to reach a young clientele in particular.

Why this car?

It’s all about design itself. The brand’s relatively conservative proportions are truly avant-garde, allowing us to claim places with aggressive aesthetic design. Arteon’s vision is that Volkswagen approaches a more courageous and more emotional nose that combines SUVs with dynamic and sporty details. For completeness, T-Roc stands on the modular platform MQB, with dimensions of 4,234 x 1,819 x 1573 millimeters under the Tiguan. Beneath the attractive exterior look, in good terms, it has a relatively wide track width, more massive fenders, short overhangs and a lower body height.

Moreover, the moment you see T-Roc live, you will be attracted by its atypical revelation, which makes you decide to do it with the rest of the portfolio. It can be a wide and expressive front mask, as well as double headlights with full-LED technology and a unique signature that creates interesting graphics. From the profile, the stretched silhouette of the roof with a chrome element stretches from the front pillar to the rear lights. AL rOLLEr C-pillars are strongly inclined, to achieve a decent Kupečková filing. The cherry on the design torch is finally an unusually wide range of individualization, as the T-Roc is the first Volkswagen SUV to come in two-color varnish with a visually sloping roof. Finally, we have a rear part that is optically divided into three parts – a spectacular ending of the roof, three-dimensionally shaped LED lights with a logo and markings in the middle, and finally, in the lower, faint part, the horizontal shaping of the bumper protects.

Inside, T-Roc is particularly interested in the recently introduced Polo. At first glance, it clearly points to extensive digitization and redefined shapes. The new dashboard concept integrates a bit more of the display and control elements. It is clear that in general you will not feel that a lot of details you have already seen in other group models, but the truth is that the cockpit is, to a certain extent, new and quite different. First of all, it is a custom design with many decorative elements of various colors and materials. There is a wide range of color variants, whether it’s a door, center panel or instrument shield. Be sure to mention the specific 8-channel sound system with a total output of up to 300 watts, which is taken care of by Beats Audio Specialist.

Also noteworthy are the 11.7 ” Active Info Display digital alarms, some of the futuristic generation (133dpi), as graphics and animations such as the Golf, Tiguan and Passat models are a thing of the past. We will find another screen in the middle of the middle, this time with the 8 “format and the new glass surface, so the crew will not get away with time with tiny scratches and the like, and even if it is a compact crossover, thanks to a longer (2,603 ​​millimeters) The T-Roc is also able to deliver the 5-person crew, and the 445-liter suitcase also belongs to the largest in the segment, even if you fold the rear seats (60:40 divided) in that classa record volume of up to 1,290 liters.


It does not matter to name all assistive systems, in other words, T-Roc is very much attuned to the technologies that have argued in Arteon or in recently-dressed Golfe. Let’s get to the drive. The powertrain is really wide – the basic unit is the 1.0 TSI engine with 85 kW/ 115 hp and 200 Nm, followed by 1.5 TSI with 110 hp/ 150 hp and 250 Nm, and the top will be the 2-liter TSI with power up to 140 kW/ 190 hp and 320 Nm The top variant is standard equipped with a 7-speed DSG and 4Motion, the other versions can be fitted with a 6-speed manual and only front-wheel drive. A similar principle works in the diesel offer – the base is 1.6 TDIwith outputs of 85 kW/ 115 hp and 250 Nm, then it is possible to reach a 2.0 TDI engine with 110 kW/ 150 hp and 340 Nm or 140 kW/ 190 hp and 400 Nm of design, technology or motor combinations is more than enough to pick up especially the presence of the 4Motion drive, which is rather rarity in the given class than reality.
